Being Part of a Community

Community is a place where we belong. Community is important for us to be a part of because being part of a community can bring security and helps to build relationships with others and others.

#1. Being Part of a Community

What does it mean to you to be a part of a community?

What do you think of when you hear the word, community?

What community do you belong to?

What are some words you can use to describe your community?

What do you think of when you hear the word, a community helper?

Do you have anyone come up to your mind when you hear the word, a community helper?

What kind of community helpers do you want to be?

What help can you give to others as a community helper?

#2. Wish List

The Wish List lesson encourages children to gather their ideas in a question, “What can we give back to community helpers to show our appreciation?”. By thinking about it, children will experience using clay to make a gift that they want to give to community helpers.

#3. Caring, Sharing Circles

The Caring, Sharing Circle lesson is inspired by the book, The Circles All Around Us” by Brad Montague. In the books, the circle represents a space where we can welcome in, care for, and love others. The writer said, “Let our caring ripple out in a million little ways.” What can we do each day to create little ripples of love and care for others? It will become a happier circle as more loved ones come to stay.
